Every child is assessed before beginning lessons at The Literacy Clinic NZ. The Initial Assessment process also includes a series of questionnaires for parents to complete which provide context for the child’s learning needs.

Symptoms of Dyslexia

The Initial Assessment

An initial assessment provides The Literacy Clinic NZ with relevant information about your child’s learning. It is NOT A DIAGNOSIS of any particular condition.

TLCNZ uses the assessment information to:

  • discuss the child’s needs with the caregiver

  • plan bespoke lessons

  • select the best specialist teacher for your child

The Assessment includes checking:

  • phonological awareness (description)

  • phonemic awareness

  • decoding and encoding skills

Additional assessments may be required depending on the reasons for support being sought  e.g; a reading assessment. The fee for your child’s initial assessment is NZ$115 (incl GST).
