“We are so fortunate to have such an experienced team based in Katikati supporting our tamariki using Structured Literacy. Jan, Andrea and their teachers go above and beyond and make such a difference to children’s learning, self-confidence, motivation and desire to progress. As a Special Needs Coordinator, I highly recommend the Literacy Clinic NZ.”

“Jan and her team have been supporting my children for many years now using a Structured Literacy approach. The difference she has made to my son’s schooling has been awesome – to see him confidently reading and writing now is the best feeling for me. All three of my children have loved their sessions with Jan and Andrea, because they make lessons fun and genuinely care about supporting each child with whatever learning difficulties they may have.”
— Sherida D, Katikati
“My son has been tutored by Andrea at the Literacy Clinic for over a year now and what a difference she has made! The support, care, kindness and willingness to make my son feel so special has been outstanding. She is responsive to his needs and adapts each session accordingly. As a parent who has battled the systems, I have felt listened to and understood and the results have been extremely rewarding.”

“Our 11 year old son with Dyslexia and ADHD has been learning with Jan at The Literacy Clinic, via Zoom lessons, for almost one year now. The progress he has made with her, using Structured Literacy, has been outstanding. His reading, spelling and writing, have all improved. At school he managed to jump up 3 reading levels and he also came first in the class spelling group one week, where he was allowed to choose a gift out of the box. He was so proud of himself that day!
His handwriting has also come a long way where he is now developing a nice tidy writing style. Beforehand he could barely write on the line and used upper and lower case in the wrong places. I believe that through all of these things coming together and helping his confidence grow, that as a bonus he was able to make and keep new friends. And this just warms our hearts. Thank you so much Jan.”
— Tiffany M, New Plymouth (Zoom)
“The work that Jan has done with our son using Structure Literacy has been absolutely life changing for him. When he started with her, he was not a confident reader or speller, despite having worked with other tutors. In one school term he has moved significantly forward and has even begun to enjoy reading. The methods that the Literacy Clinic NZ teach are effective and we are so pleased to have been introduced to Jan and look forward to continuing to have her support our son’s learning journey.”

“We highly recommend Jan at The Literacy Clinic. She has been working with our son via Zoom for nearly 2 years now and the huge growth in his reading and writing ability has been outstanding. The journey has been amazing and the new confidence we see is fabulous. Jan has an exceptional gift to support, teach and guide students at their individual pace, achieving trust and incredible outcomes along the way. Thank you, Jan!”

“I heartily recommend The Literacy Clinic. Jan Bibby is patient, systematic and makes learning fun. Our granddaughter now has some skills with which to decipher words. Up until Jan’s tuition it was purely guesswork. Jan is a gifted teacher who knows how to get the best from her students - even those with learning difficulties. Thank you, Jan!”
— Rae DL, Auckland (Zoom)
“Jan Bibby (The Literacy Clinic) provided extra tuition for both of my girls over a 3-year period after recommendations from a teacher at Katikati Primary School. I highly recommend Jan, who will provide an excellent level of individualised learning that will see your child progress towards levels of achievement not seen before. Her skill in diagnosing areas of concern, then designing an appropriate, motivating intervention to boost their knowledge and confidence, is fantastic! Witnessing your child make progress is such a relief, and an acknowledgement that Jan’s ability in turning your child’s learning around is simply amazing. Our family was very lucky to have known and been able to use this amazing service. Thank you so much Jan!”
— Jo D, Waihi Beach
“Before he attended The Literacy Clinic I struggled to read my Year 9 son’s writing. He spelt his words phonetically. After only one term of tuition (10 weeks) he is now writing beautifully and his spelling has come a long way. Now Jan is working on the speed with which he writes. I can’t believe how far he has come in such a short period of time. Thank you so much Jan!”
— Tania D, Katikati
“Jan has been so helpful with my daughter’s reading, writing and confidence. In just over a term, we have already noticed huge improvements in her ability to read, write and spell using the Structured Literacy approach. Thank you so much, Jan.”

“They say you don’t realise how fortunate you are until you personally experience heartbreak or hardship. We all think we are bullet-proof until things start to unravel either at work or in a family relationship where what we have always taken for granted, like the health of those we love, begins to show signs of breaking down. Sometimes that deterioration in health is physical or mental and we seek help from those in the medical profession who have the skills to mend our broken bodies. Another type of difficulty requiring the help of a skilled practitioner, are those associated with learning at a young age. Common amongst them are children who are autistic or dyslexic or even just slow learners. Jan Bibby is a pioneer in this often misunderstood area of education, with over 13 years’ experience, using Structured Literacy. While the education ministry is making strides to provide schools with the qualified staff to cope with a nationwide traditionally under resourced problem, there is still a long way to go before all the pupils exhibiting these disorders can access the help they need through the public education system.
In the meantime, Jan has developed a very successful ‘Literacy Clinic’ that she operates privately from her home in Katikati. Since establishing this clinic, she has formed links with pupils (often using the online zoom conference platform) who are able to have contact with the clinic tutors on a weekly basis. This arrangement enables pupils to make progress, using a Structured Literacy approach, without disruption to normal school attendance. As a grandparent of a child who has benefited enormously from this non-invasive, sensitive instruction, I am happy to endorse the Literacy Clinic as a form of help that has the ability to change lives. I know what it is like to be in a situation where nothing seems to be working for those we care most about. Fortunately, help is available. You have nothing to lose from giving the clinic a call.”
— Clive B, Tolaga Bay
“Jan Bibby has been supporting our granddaughter, in Christchurch, with her reading and comprehension for the past 2 years. Abbie has made great progress and we are delighted! Jan and Abbie get together on Zoom each week. Thankyou Jan for your compassion and understanding.”

“Jan really helped our 14-year-old son. He was lagging behind at school and wasn’t engaged. He almost never read anything for pleasure because he found it so hard. Jan taught him some really useful strategies to apply when encountering a word or phrase he didn’t understand. The methods she used really clicked with him. We noticed a change in him straight away. He became more confident at school and in general. Jan has a lovely manner - firm but fun. Our son doesn’t really need lessons anymore, but still wants to attend. I think that says it all!”
