What is Structured Literacy

Structured Literacy is an evidence-based research approach to the teaching of reading and writing.

It is the direct, explicit, systematic, accumulative and diagnostic delivery of literacy components that build effective literacy foundations.

It should include the sound structure of language (phonological awareness), letter names and formations, sound (phonemes)/symbol (graphemes) correspondences, syllable types, spelling, morphemes, vocabulary, sentence structure (syntax), paragraph and text structure and comprehension instruction.

What you can expect from TLCNZ

The Literacy Clinic NZ utilises a unique, evidence based, Structured Literacy approach to learning.

We know what works!

Your child is unique - with their own way of processing and learning.

Your child will work one-to-one with a specific teacher, in person or online.

Your child will have a bespoke lesson - every lesson.

Your child will experience a variety of teaching and learning strategies to achieve their bespoke goals.

Your child will gradually integrate isolated learning patterns into reading and writing texts.

Your child will be supported to take small steps towards mastery of each learning pattern.

Your child will build their learning until ‘mastery’ is achieved.

Your child will gain confidence and increasingly take responsibility for their learning.

Your child’s increased confidence will enhance their social skills.

The Literacy Clinic NZ knows how to support your child so that they will achieve their learning potential.
